Kenneth Kaunda, was at the forefront in Zambia’s struggle for independence from the British empire. As a former teacher, he understood the importance of the role of education in a nascent country and has been instrumental in creating the modern education system in Zambia.

He is credited with revamping the education system in the country and providing access to education and materials for all children irrespective of their societal strata. Kenneth Kaunda also served as the Chancellor of the University of Zambia after its inauguration in 1969.
